Planning a one-week trip to Athens? Whether you're a history lover, a foodie, or simply craving sunshine and adventure, the Greek capital offers the perfect mix of ancient landmarks, vibrant neighborhoods, and unforgettable cuisine. Here’s a full 7-day Athens itinerary that will help you make the most of your stay.

Day 1: Welcome to Athens – Plaka and Acropolis Views

Your journey begins in the historic heart of the city: Plaka. Wander through its charming streets lined with neoclassical houses, souvenir shops, and cozy tavernas.
Highlights:

  • Visit Anafiotika, a hidden village-like area beneath the Acropolis.
  • Enjoy dinner with a view at a rooftop restaurant facing the Acropolis.

Day 2: Dive Into Ancient Athens

Start early to beat the crowds at the Acropolis. Explore the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Theatre of Dionysus. Afterwards, visit the Acropolis Museum, one of the finest museums in Europe.
Tip: Purchase a combined ticket for multiple archaeological sites.

Day 3: Central Athens & Food Tour Adventure

Begin your day at Syntagma Square and watch the changing of the guard at the Hellenic Parliament. Stroll through the National Gardens, then explore the bustling Monastiraki area.
Must-Do: In the afternoon, join our Athens Food Tour to explore the city through its flavors. From local markets to traditional tavernas, you’ll taste your way through Greek culture with a local guide.

Day 4: Explore Local Neighborhoods – Psiri & Exarchia

Discover Athens beyond the tourist trail. Psiri is known for street art, quirky cafés, and artisan shops. Exarchia offers an edgy, alternative vibe with cool bookstores and independent galleries.
Eat Like a Local: Stop for loukoumades (Greek donuts) and enjoy a slow lunch with mezedes (small plates).

Day 5: Day Trip to Cape Sounion

Take a break from the city and head to Cape Sounion, home to the Temple of Poseidon, perched dramatically above the Aegean Sea.
How to Get There: Rent a car or book a half-day guided tour.
Don’t Miss: Sunset at the temple — one of the most magical sights in Greece.

Day 6: Athenian Riviera & Beach Time

Relax on the coast! Spend your day on the Athenian Riviera, where you’ll find gorgeous beaches like Vouliagmeni and Glyfada.
Optional: Visit Lake Vouliagmeni, a thermal lake surrounded by cliffs — perfect for a rejuvenating swim.

Day 7: Markets, Souvenirs & Last Bites

Spend your final day exploring Varvakios Central Market, where you can shop for spices, olives, and local cheeses. Walk through Ermou Street for souvenirs and Greek fashion.
Final Treat: Enjoy a farewell meal at a traditional taverna — and don’t leave without tasting moussaka or souvlaki one last time!
